AIMS AND OBJECTIVES OF THE NEW HOPE MISSIONARY BAPTIST ASSOCIATION

The New Hope Missionary Baptist Association was officially organized on Wednesday following the First (1st) Sunday in October, in 1870 at the New Hope Missionary Baptist Church.  It was the result of a merger of the Cole's and Hackney's Associations.  The Deep River Association was also born out of this Association.  The New Hope Association was organized for the following purposes:

  • To support the State Missions through the General State Convention (later named General Baptist State Convention)
  • To support Foreign Mission through the Lott-Carey Convention
  • To support the Woman's Auxiliary of the General Baptist State Convention
  • To support the Oxford Colored Orphanage (later named Central Children's Home of North Carolina)
  • To support the National Baptist Convention
  • To support Shaw University

Later, under Rev. James Stewart's administration, the Department of Evangelism was organized, and in 1959 the Youth Movement was organized.
